It was opened on Tuesday 16th June at 17.00 Nicola e Giovanni e Pisano – The origin of modern sculpture, Pavilion of Fine Arts for Expo, as part of the initiative promoted by Roberto Maroni, President of Regione Lombardia, and curated by the art critic and Regione Lombardia Fine Arts ambassador for Expo Vittorio Sgarbi. The Pisano Pavilion, designed by Alberto Bartalini with the support of Robot City-Italian Art Factory and GiGroup, thanks to the cooperation with the Veneranda Fabbrica del Duomo di Milano, is located in San Gottardo in Corte Church in Milan and will be open from the 17th June to the 31st October. It adds to the already opened Pavilions in Villa Reale in Monza (‘La bella principessa di Leonardo’) and in Mantua (‘Museo della Follia’) which, from the beginning, met a great public success.
THE SCULPTURES FROM PISA – The nine sculptures by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, coming from Pisa Baptistery and currently displayed in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, are the extraordinary proof of the deep renovation that crossed the whole Europe in the XIII century. Creations of radical originality showing the central and prominent role of Italian culture in the development of the visual culture of the time. The setting up in San Gottardo in Corte Church, Royal Chapel of Palazzo Reale recently restored by the Veneranda Fabbrica, would like to offer the chance to admire the incredible modernity of these artworks, to highlight the endless link between tradition and innovation sustaining all the Expo 2015 events.
THE PAINTINGS – The convincing example of the continuity of history, of the fil rouge connecting memory and present time, finds its natural conclusion in the location, inside the same Church, of 9 paintings by the artist Renato Frosali, who interpreted the Pisano artworks from their bottom-up natural view.
